American Voices
American voices is a unit of study for Freshmen in California. The focus is on how immigration provides a rich tapestry of cultures that is tied together by common ideals and rights. The two anchor texts included in this digital book (for educational purposes) only are A Quilt of a Country by Anna Quindlen and The Immigrant Contribution by John F. Kennedy. The digital book contains audio discussions to assist students with their acquisition of background knowledge and their comprehension. The essential question is: What does it mean to be American? We will be working toward answering this question as we read each of the informational texts in this unit.
As with any informational text that is rich with historical background and language, we will review or learn about American immigration as related to the articles.
